In the 16th century, the binders industry took on great importance in the Erzgebirge. Its development from its early days through to the 20th century can be traced at the Lengefeld Lime Works. The monument complex is of outstanding importance and provides wide-ranging insights into the history of lime mining, processing and dressing, as well as the associated administrative and social systems. In the midst of the historic mining site, a significant biotope has formed, providing a habitat for wild orchids and other species. Dolomite marble is still quarried in the immediate vicinity of the lime works, continuing the mining tradition.
